Aquifer Determination Tools

The Aquifer Determination Tools, originally developed by DWR and enhanced under the CDSS, can be used to research aquifer characteristics for the Denver or Dakota/Cheyenne aquifers, to determine the volume of water at specific locations.

Common Uses:
  • Find aquifer elevations (top and bottom) to calculate aquifer volume for a specific area
  • Find thickness of water-yielding sands
  • Determine if an aquifer is tributary or non-tributary
Important Notes:

For Areas Within the Lost Creek Designated Basin:
  • The tributary status information provided by SB5 may not be current for areas within the Laramie-Fox Hills Aquifer in the Lost Creek Designated Basin.
  • The nontributary line for the Laramie-Fox Hills Aquifer was revised within the Lost Creek Designated Basin in 2013.  These revisions were based on new site-specific information as allowed under Rule 5.3.6.1 of the Rules and Regulations for Management and Control of Designated Ground Water (2 CCR 410-1) re-amended December 30, 2010.
  • A map showing the revised nontributary line is being prepared but is not yet available online. Please contact Mary Halstead for more information.
For Areas Within the Kiowa-Bijou Designated Basin:
  • The tributary status information provided by SB5 may not be current for areas within the Denver, Arapahoe, and Laramie- Fox Hills Aquifers in the Kiowa-Bijou Designated Basin.
  • The nontributary line for the Denver Aquifer was revised within the Kiowa Bijou Designated Basin in approximately 2003.  These revisions were based on new site-specific information as allowed under Rule 5.3.6.1 of the Rules and Regulations for Management and Control of Designated Ground Water (2 CCR 410-1) re-amended December 30, 2010.  A map showing that revised nontributary line is being prepared but is not yet available online.  Please contact Mary Halstead or Keith Vander Horst for more information.
  • Additional work has been initiated but not completed on further revisions to the nontributary line for areas within the Denver Aquifer, and other revisions to the nontributary line for areas within the Arapahoe and  Laramie-Fox Hills Aquifers   Please contact Keith Vander Horst for details.  Maps showing those revisions will be made available online when that work is completed.
